my neighbor always walks out of her house around 5:15 in the morning stalking along on high heels like she means business. i have no idea what her job is, but sometimes i wonder where she's going in such a hurry in the dark.

there are some interesting swaps up over on http://www.illustratedatcs.com/. i'm working on a chunky book (theme: hands) and some atc swaps. the image of mary is one of the cards i made for that swap, though i'm keeping this one and sending the others (which will appear over on flickr soon).

i grabbed some books on screening, dyeing, and printing on fabric, as well as art quilts. the library actually has some really good ones. we'll see how this sewing thing goes. i've never been very good at it.

new shows to watch this season: Trauma, The Forgotten, Mercy, and NCIS: Los Angeles. i usually watch while making art, which is a good excuse to hang out at the art desk. =D

my studio is just about clean and organized. you would all be shocked.

D is @ a new school with new friends. she went to homecoming yesterday, and wore a yellow and pink dress. her date looks thrilled in every single photo. at least his tie matches her dress.

for the last few days, as i've worked on my studio and looked for jobs, i've been idly cutting out hands, gessoing, collaging, gessoing, etc. the other night, i finally got to painting. color was added to these via foam brush and scraping with a plastic card. gesso and acrylic are lovely when layered.

the right four are the first four. they're the usual cheerful colors. you can see process pix below. these have about eight layers, maybe nine. a little brown prismacolor is added to the edges to bring in the lines.



the left four are a more grungy color scheme, darker and with a lot more green, brown, and deep burgundy. these are just the fronts. at least four of these will be going to live with other mail artists via the chunky hands page swap over @ illustractedatcs.com.

Something Wicked Chunky Book
4x4 inch chunky books are super fun to make. For this swap, you'll make and send in between 3 and 6 chunky book pages, depending on what you feel like doing. If we get a full signup list, please feel free to send in 6. The theme is Something Wicked to honor the season, from Halloween to El Dia de lose Muertos, your choice! Please hand draw or paint and layer your pages on the theme of spooky autumn spirits, witches, cats, potions, skeletons, ancestors or bats. Also open for arting: costumes, revelry, haunted houses, and masks! Please use thick paper and do your best work!

Returns are unbound chunky pages from your fellow artists! You can choose to bind them yourself, or to hang them as is!

a little art has been happening here and there amid various other things. the puppies are doing pretty well. yes, we're still working on that house training. slowly. sloooowly.

art42 now has over 400 members, which is pretty cool. for some crazy reason, i'm still having trouble getting people interested in certain swap. wtf!

here's a cool thing a mail art friend is doing -- JAM atcs that are then turned into a mini zine and sent back to participants. i've sent on a couple of these... it comes with a pencil stamped on. you add, then send it to comeone else who adds, then seds it back to misti ko.

found some black atc blanks on the floor when cleaning my desk. stopped to make some art with prismacolors and a white gel pen. some i sent in for a witch atc swap, some for a monster atc swap.
